Mama's Stew Routine (2/2)

Length: 2 weeks

Dates: January 15th & 22nd

Day/Time: Thursdays, 8-9 PM (weekly)

Instructor: Taylor Marcus

Do you ever notice how some songs invites a group of people out to the floor to perform a Solo Jazz choreographed line dance like the Shim Sham? Mama’s Stew (aka .The Stew and Hands Clappin’) is a beloved fast-paced and energetic routine from the 1960’s. It was originally choreographed by George Sullivan and was routinely practiced by Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers as a warm up. This routine is often called the Mama’s Stew routine as Mama Lu & The Parkets very famously performed it together.

If you have been dancing in Calgary a while, you have possibly seen this routine done at social dances. Now is your chance to learn it. Taylor Marcus will be breaking down and teaching the routine. This routine is great for brand new dancers or anyone looking to learn more Solo Jazz!

Foundations to Blues Week 1

Length: 4 weeks

Dates: January 29th - February 19th

Day/Time: Thursdays, 8-9 PM (weekly)

Instructor: Romit & Elizabeth

Blues is all about connection, creativity, and really listening to the music. In this foundations series, we’ll introduce you to the core elements that make blues dancing feel so good, whether the song is slow and smoooooth, funky and driving, or somewhere in between.

Because blues is a family of dances rather than just one style, this series is designed to stay open and adaptable. Each week, your instructors will explore different foundational concepts such as:  pulse, groove, and grounded movement; partnership connection and conversation; rhythmic play and musicality

You’ll learn a range of movements and ideas that help you feel at home on any blues dance floor, no matter the tempo or vibe. We’ll focus on building connection, comfort in your body, and the confidence to express yourself within the music.
