✨Balboa Workshop Weekend ✨

With Eloise & Cedric

March 21st & 22nd

Tuxedo Cat Swing is excited to announce that we’re hosting a Balboa Weekend Workshop in Calgary on March 21st & 22nd!

Balboa (or “Bal”) is a style of swing that developed alongside big band music on the West Coast of California in the late 1930s and 40s. The dance is known for being danced in close-embrace and its fun footwork suitable for all tempos.

We’re thrilled to have our favourite local dancers and instructors, Eloise & Cedric, join us and share their love of Balboa with our dance community and teaching classes throughout the weekend!

Bal isn’t often taught in Calgary, which makes this a special opportunity to learn and build a stronger and versatile dance community!

Whether you’re brand new to Bal or looking to brush up and refine your basics & technique, this weekend is for you. All classes in this workshop are beginner-friendly and open to everyone, no prior experience necessary! It’s also a perfect chance to learn and explore the opposite role in a supportive environment!

In addition to classes, we will also be hosting a balboa/lindy social dance on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon! If you’re not able to make it for the workshop, you are welcome to join us for these dancing opportunities.

All classes and socials this weekend will be held at Rosemont Community Association (2807 10 St NW)

Instructors

Eloise Passarella

Eloise Passarella is a dancer with a background in ballet and jazz, and nearly a decade of experience in swing dance. Her training across these styles has shaped a dynamic approach to movement that blends strong technical foundations with rhythm, musicality, and personal expression.

As a teacher, Eloise is passionate about creating an environment where dancers feel both supported and challenged. She encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, push their limits, and discover their own creativity within the movement. Her classes emphasize body awareness, musical interpretation, and the joy of exploring what makes each dancer’s style unique.

Through her workshops, Eloise hopes to inspire dancers to deepen their connection to the music, take risks, and leave with new tools to continue growing in their dance journey.

Cedric Delise

Cedric Delisle is a swing dancer and instructor with a passion for Balboa and a movement background that brings a unique perspective to partner dancing. Originally starting his swing dance journey with Lindy Hop, Cedric quickly discovered that Balboa’s precision, musicality, and close connection resonated most with him, and it has been his primary focus ever since.

His dance approach is strongly influenced by his training in Argentine tango as well as circus arts, including aerial silks and straps. These disciplines have developed his body awareness, balance, and control, all of which inform his approach to leading and partner connection.

Known for his curiosity and creativity, Cedric is always experimenting with new ideas and movement possibilities in Balboa.
